Clear Vinyl Coated Galvanized Aircraft Cable
Aircraft Cable with Vinyl Coating
This vinyl-coated galvanized steel cable is generally referred to as aircraft cable and is a popular choice for deck railing systems, pulleys, winches, and more. The higher strand count and smaller wires provides flexibility and fatigue-resistance, extending the life of your cable and making it easy to work with.
Note: Despite the name, this cable is not intended for aircraft use. Before using for critical overhead lifting applications, consult with a rigging professional.
How Does Aircraft Cable Differ From Wire Rope?
The two differ in several key ways. First, aircraft cable sizes only go up to 3/8", while traditional wire rope can go up to 2" or greater in diameter. Secondly, this coated cable is not rated for overhead lifting, while wire rope standardly is.
Hot Dip Drawn Galvanized with Vinyl Coating
Along with the superior corrosion-resistance compared to a bright wire rope, a hot dip drawn galvanized wire rope offers several other benefits that make it worth the investment.
The most important of these benefits is the strength - the standard galvanization process can weaken the rope by up to 10% of the break strength. The drawn galvanization process does not, so you'll get the same strength as a comparable bright wire rope!
Drawn galvanized also enhances ductility - allowing it to perform better in critical applications - and corrosion-resistance - it won't flake or crack like an electro-galvanized wire might.
The vinyl coating adds another layer of protection, keeping dirt, moisture, UV-rays, and other potentially-damaging products away from your wire rope. It's extremely flexible, seals in lubrication, and is easier to handle than a standard aircraft cable.
